Faced with the growth of professional retraining and the evolution of employment, the University of Paris Nanterre, the Mecca of the student revolution of May 68, is actively developing its continuing education offer in order to promote synergies between the world of job and the courses offered. In 2013, the Île-de-France regional council therefore commissioned the architectural firm Ameller Dubois & Associés to build the new continuing education building for the faculty. After six years of construction, Philippe Ameller and Jacques Dubois deliver a functional building with an atypical architectural style.
Aware of the evolution of ways of working and of building one's professional career, the architects of Ameller Dubois & Associés have designed their project taking into account the current challenges of the world of employment.
Although it displays a strong identity in contract with the neighboring building, the continuing education building of the University of Paris-Ouest in Nanterre, located between two very different buildings, along the railways, nevertheless creates a certain architectural unity in within the campus.
The building fits harmoniously into its urban context. In front of the railway tracks, the south facade, visible from the train, comes alive thanks to an atypical arrangement of colored vertical sunshades arranged in progressive offset, contrasting with the north facade dressed in glazing and silkscreened metal panels and the facades at the heart of the plot made from horizontal wooden slats. Ameller Dubois & Associés thus creates a multifaceted envelope, which accompanies changes in the faculty.
This atypical university complex, which also presents itself as an attractive kinetic architecture, houses services for students: a large hall, a media library, an amphitheater, rest areas, work rooms and computer rooms. In addition to their academic function, these spaces, built according to an ecological conception of architecture, guarantee significant energy savings.
The Ameller Dubois & Associés team produces equipment that is economical, functional and attractive, brilliantly suited to contemporary economic, environmental and professional challenges.
