A Olomouc dans l’Est de la République tchèque, l’agence d’architecture britannique Benoy a réalisé la "Galerie Santovka". Un programme aux nombreux usages et aux lignes pures et contemporaines, qui vient d’être récompensé par le prix "Building of the Year 2014" dans la catégorie commerce par "the Architecture and Building Foundation" Tchèque.

Installée sur un site jusqu’ici abandonné, la nouvelle structure de verre se signale dans l’environnement pour créer un nouvel espace de vie dans la ville d'Olomouc. Ce centre commercial accueille des installations de loisirs ainsi que de nombreux espaces commerciaux sur une surface de 46.000m².

Les façades extérieures, écrins vitrés et modernes font écho à l’architecture vernaculaire locale en incorporant des matériaux et des teintes traditionnelles. L’aménagement paysager a été pensé pour organiser un nouveau quartier autour du mall desservi par une ligne de tramway, avec notamment la création d’une passerelle menant directement du quai aux niveaux supérieurs pour équilibrer la fréquentation des différents espaces.

"Benoy, the international award-winning firm of Architects, Masterplanners, Interior and Graphic Designers, is proud to announce that Galerie Šantovka has been named the ‘Building of the Year 2014’ in the Retail Category at the Architecture and Building Foundation in the Czech Republic.

The contemporary yet respectfully designed Galerie Šantovka has been constructed on a derelict, post-industrial site and the development has been described as a catalyst for the regeneration of the area, creating a dynamic new civic space for the city of Olomouc.

Located in the east of the Czech Republic and occupying a prominent position within the centre of the city, the 46,000m2 new build, retail-led scheme includes leisure facilities and commercial space. The three main levels of trading feature 200 shopping units.

The external façades have a fresh and modern design but also reference the local vernacular by incorporating similar materials and the historic colour palette. Extensive landscaping throughout the development has created a relaxing ‘Riverside Green Corridor’, and al fresco dining terraces bring new life into this striking destination. The new Riverside Plaza and Terraces are linked to the city and wider regions by a new tram-stop and pedestrian link bridge; this bridge connects directly to the upper trading levels thus balancing customer footfall and rental values within the centre.
