Omer Arbel : Séries 21

Directeur de la création pour la maison d’édition pluridisciplinaire Bocci, le designer Omer Arbel a imaginé la suspension "Séries 21". Un luminaire fait de 21 sources lumineuses enroulées dans de fines feuilles de porcelaine et qui se déploient en grappe.

Les lampes à basse tension au xénon créent un fort contraste, la lumière filtrant du diffuseur en verre de borosilicate est nette et tranchante, tandis que la luminosité filtrant à travers la mince couche de porcelaine est douce et organique. Elégante cette pièce sculpturale permet d’imaginer ses propres compositions de bouquets flottant et lumineux.

Sur ce projet, l'éditeur Bocci précise :

"21 is an exploration of an analog system of making, whereby thin sheets of porcelain are draped over a sandblasted borosilicate glass inverted trumpet diffuser. The thin porcelain skin is allowed to dress over the borosilicate core to create whatever form is most natural to it. This makes a unique shape, of varying size, in every iteration of the fabrication process.

21 pendants are designed to be arranged in groupings, such that the individual pieces touch each other to articulate larger forms. The relatively simple shapes of the individual pendants, when layered and nestled together, make complex sculptural compositions.

Each diffuser houses a low voltage (12V, 20Watt xenon or 1.5W LED) lamp. A strong contrast is established between the organically distributed soft light passing through the translucent white porcelain skin and the sharp, crisp light passing through the borosilicate glass diffuser."
